Floral Design Day is an annual opportunity for the floral industry to celebrate the beauty and artistry of working with flowers. The day originated in honor of floral design pioneer Carl Rittner, who is known as a visionary who saw florist’s work as an art form deserving of recognition. To observe this day, City Line Florist thought we would introduce you to one of our amazing floral designers.
Meet Ann, or as we call her, Annie B.
Also known by those who love her as Bananie, Annie B. has been with City Line Florist for 32 years. Her beginnings with our family-owned shop were simple enough – she drove by, saw the greenhouse and walked in to apply for a job. But it turns out that hiring her was one of the best things we have ever done, as she has become an indispensable part of the family. Ann was trained by one of the original owners, Robert Roehrich, and she knows all the tricks of the trade. Today she is our resident plant expert, as well as our funeral consultant and designer.
City Line’s Nicole Palazzo is the great-granddaughter of the founder and has high praise for Annie B. “Ann is the first person you see when you walk into the shop. She always greets everyone with a smile and warm “hello.” She is a loyal and dedicated worker. She is one of our fastest designers and is totally a superstar! She really does it all – her funeral work is beautiful and exquisite. We are so lucky to have her!”
Annie B. loves to work with gerbera daisies classic red roses. She quotes a phrase she learned from Robert Roehrich, “There’s not much prettier than a red rose.” We asked Annie what she loves most about her job, and her answer shows just how dedicated she is to her career. “I love the people and the variety of work”, she shares. “I love all the flowers. I love planting outside and watching things grow. Working with flowers and plants is a great way to spend a day!”
Favorite Day? Annie added that one of her favorite days in over three decades took place this past October – when City Line Florist participated in the “Petal It Forward” campaign.
